About The Position

The Recreation Supervisor plans and supervises the facility’s recreational program in an institutional, secure setting. The role includes planning and coordinating special events, such as tournaments and contests, and helping develop recreational activities that meet the needs, interests, and abilities of the inmate/resident population. The Recreation Supervisor also supervises recreation staff, monitors recreation activities and craft shop operations, arranges necessary equipment and facilities, and inspects recreational areas for safety, security, and sanitation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Recreational Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or an acceptable related field; additional related recreation experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.
• One year of experience supervising recreation or leisure activities.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications or similar software applications.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.

• Experience in a correctional setting.

Responsibilities

• Supervise recreation staff and evaluate them as prescribed by facility and company policy.
• Monitor and supervise inmate/resident recreation activities and craft shop operations to ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and standards.
• Plan and coordinate special events, overseeing activities to support successful events while maintaining facility safety and security.
• Participate in developing recreational activities that meet the needs, interests, and abilities of the inmate/resident population.
• Arrange for proper equipment and facilities to be available in designated areas as required.
• Conduct regular inspections of recreational areas to ensure safety, security, and sanitation in accordance with policy, procedure, and applicable regulations.
