About The Position

Coordination and supervision of community recreation programs and licensed day care programs. This role serves as an ambassador of the City of Steamboat Springs, upholding City values and ensuring safety. Duties are subject to change based on community needs and may include afterschool programs, camps, teen programs, youth and adult sports leagues, and outreach initiatives. The position involves managing program logistics, participant records, staff recruitment and training, and public communication.

Requirements

Must be School Age Director qualified by State of Colorado
Two years of experience working in the recreation field
Valid state driver's license
First Aid and CPR certification
Ability to obtain all certifications as required by the State of Colorado Dept. of Early Learning
Must pass pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Screen
Motor Vehicle Record must show that you have not accumulated more than four points on your license in the past three years
Must not have had a DUI in the past 7 years or a DWAI in the past 5 years
Considerable knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning and administration
Considerable knowledge of the equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in a comprehensive community recreation program
Ability to coordinate and direct varied activities involved in a community recreation program
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to plan and supervise the work of paid staff and volunteers
Ability to drive for up to four (4) consecutive hours during day and night hours
General knowledge of State of Colorado licensing rules and regulation, Colorado Department of Health and the Environment rules and regulation

Applicants with a background or active certifications in Therapeutic Recreation will be strongly considered.

Responsibilities

Assists in updating and managing immunization records, therapeutic recreation forms, medication administration, and emergency plans for participants.
Assists with enrollment, registration, family paperwork, and family profile maintenance within registration software.
Coordinates and manages the planning, implementation, and follow-up for recreation programs, including vendor inquiries, program scheduling, coordinating transportation, parent communication, and program evaluation.
Recruits, hires, trains, and manages seasonal staff and volunteers, ensuring adequate staffing for scheduled programs.
Completes seasonal evaluations as needed and schedules substitute staff.
Serves as On-Site Director to lead programs and transport children in City vehicles.
Analyzes existing programs and recommends new programs to enhance variety.
Stays up-to-date on current trends in programs and activities.
Serves as liaison between program participants and the Recreation Division.
Responds to public inquiries by phone, email, text, and other means.
Prepares publications such as brochures, calendars, letters, posters, news releases, and flyers regarding recreation programs.
Maintains the inventory and physical quality, cleanliness, and safety of program supplies, facilities, equipment, tools, food, and vehicles.
Records and tracks budget expenses to ensure programs remain within budget guidelines.
Assists with updating and upgrading staff, operating, and reporting manuals and forms.
Assists with maintaining staff records in compliance with state licensing rules and regulations.
Maintains personal trainings and certifications as required by the state.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Attends staff meetings and trainings.
Serves as a member of various employee committees.
Assumes the responsibilities of the Youth Program Supervisor in their absence.
