About The Position

The Recreation Leader is responsible for assisting and organizing the set-up, coordination, supervision, and tear down of Adaptive Recreation programs for individuals with disabilities. Position will assist in the following areas: Special Olympics sports, adaptive classes and events. Typical hours are evenings and occasional weekends. The ideal candidate will possess at least six months of paid or volunteer experience working with individuals with disabilities. A valid Driver's License is preferred. Requirements

  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate with parents and program participants professionally and effectively, disseminating information in a timely manner
  • Must provide proof of CPR and First Aid Certifications within one month of hire date.
  • Must provide proof of CPR and First Aid Certifications within one month of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 6 months experience working or volunteering with individuals with disabilities is highly preferred
  • Experience coaching or playing a sport is preferred, must have ability to help facilitate various Special Olympics practices
  • Extensive experience coaching a sport is preferred.
  • A valid Driver's License is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and implements the distribution, care and use of supplies and/or equipment for assigned programs.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of recreational facilities and equipment to provide a safe and sanitary environment, notifies supervisor of any problems and/or concerns.
  • Completion and filing of accident and statistical reports regarding incidents and issues pertaining to programs, as required.
  • Ensure City policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are strictly enforced; responds to and resolves complaints; performs on-site program inspections and evaluations to ensure compliance with program and city safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend meetings as assigned.
  • Assist with other recreation programs, as requested.
  • Some positions may require the performance of additional position accountabilities and/or related duties
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
