Highland Community Center is on the lookout for enthusiastic and caring individuals to join our Adaptive Recreation team! As a Program Staff member, you’ll lead exciting classes and activities designed for adults with intellectual disabilities — think art, dance, BINGO, sports, fitness, crafts, and unforgettable special events. You’ll supervise and engage with groups of 10–30 participants, making sure everyone is safe, included, and having a great time. Requirements

Applicant has a thorough knowledge of programs and services to which they are assigned.
Interpersonal contacts will extend beyond the work group to patrons and the public.
Public contact is significant and ongoing, working relationships are established with patrons.
Staff must be able to collaborate and communicate with other staff members.
Will work with multiple participants within various programs.
Preferred High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
At least 1-year prior work experience or education in recreation or a related field.
Prior experience with children or adults living with intellectual disabilities.
First Aid, CPR, or other specialized training or experience will be required.

Responsibilities

Facilitate all aspects of recreation within assigned program for participants
Responsible for assigned class activities
Coaches
Performs data entry for program management
Leads volunteers
Teaches (small classes)
Creates displays
Adapt course material to participant ability level
Accountable for participants during programs
Provide assistance feeding participants
Does word processing
Program preparation and set-up; explains program requirements.
Operates specialized equipment.
Applies Basic first aid when necessary
Assists with set up, maintenance, and/or operation of data management processes.
Works in more than one assignment in the Recreation Division.
