About The Position

Portland Parks & Recreation is hiring for Recreation's Arts, Culture, and Special Events Division! This is a talent pool for future part-time or seasonal jobs. When jobs open, selected candidates will be contacted for interviews. The application covers several positions including Recreation Associate (Attendant, Customer Service Representative) and Parks Activities Specialist (Instructor I: Assistant Instructors, Instructor II: General Instructors, Specialized Arts Instructor). The Community Music Center (CMC) and Multnomah Arts Center (MAC) are key locations for these roles, offering music and various arts programs.

Requirements

  • Can create a welcoming and friendly environment.
  • Knows about the assigned recreation area.
  • Can talk clearly with different groups of people.
  • Can notice and handle safety and emergency situations.
  • Can solve problems and help with customer concerns.
  • Minimum of 500 hours of prior teaching experience for each discipline(s) (Specialized Arts Instructor).
  • Have had significant traditional or non-traditional professional learning and/or development (Specialized Arts Instructor).
  • General relevant knowledge of arts/music is important for the Arts Center representatives (Customer Service Representative).

Nice To Haves

  • An accredited degree or certificate program in a specialized art form(s) (Specialized Arts Instructor).
  • Long-term self-lead practice of art form(s)/discipline(s), which may include teaching and/or continued education (Specialized Arts Instructor).
  • Proficiency in Logic and Ableton Live (Instructor II: General Instructor).

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming and friendly environment.
  • Engage with park and facility guests.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Serve as a resource for Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) information.
  • Maintain clean facilities and/or park spaces.
  • Monitor the use of space and the needs of guests.
  • Proactively address potential safety concerns.
  • Uphold the PP&R code of conduct.
  • Communicate with supervisors, rangers, and security under established guidelines.
  • Monitor participation and complete necessary paperwork and record keeping.
  • Facilitate event set-up and clean-up (Event Hosts).
  • Physically move equipment from space to space (Event Hosts).
  • Open and/or close and secure classrooms or buildings (Event Hosts).
  • Complete registrations for activities and process admissions (Customer Service Representative).
  • Sell concessions, process payments, answer phones, provide clerical support, take messages (Customer Service Representative).
  • Support facility rentals (Customer Service Representative).
  • Assist with cleaning, activity equipment set-up and storage, and maintaining the facility (Customer Service Representative).
  • Prepare and provide individual lessons, classes, or other activities for specialized arts & music programs (Instructors).
  • Clean equipment and high-touch surfaces in the classroom (Instructors).
  • Lesson planning and class content (Instructor II: General Instructor).
  • Instrumental instruction for a variety of music activities in group and individual settings (Instructor II: General Instructor).
  • Support delivery of a variety of classes and activities (Instructor I: Assistant Instructor).
  • Support program delivery (Instructor I: Assistant Instructor).
