We operate over 50 recreation facilities (community centers, teen centers, pools, school-based learning centers, environmental learning centers, and boating and sailing centers) and provide opportunities for people to play, learn, and lead healthy, active lives. Our programs and events include fitness and athletics, licensed childcare and preschool, swimming and boating, youth development and job preparation, academic enrichment, and more -- including programs designed for older adults and people with disabilities, as well as grant and partnership programs designed and implemented with immigrant and refugee communities . The Teen Life Center Recreation Attendant will report to the Teen Life Center Sr. Recreation Program Specialist. This position is an integral part of the Recreation Division, it is responsible for providing administrative and other supports for the operations of one of SPR's 3 Teen Life Centers (TLCs) that offer high-quality teen and young adult development programs, events and activities.

Requirements

  • One year of experience using a computerized point-of-sale/event registration system in a customer service-related role.
  • Ability to interpret and follow policies and procedures, especially related to cash handling and SPR operations.
  • A strong orientation toward customer service and a commitment to departmental values.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working with teens and young adults from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to foster a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for all, with a focus on teens and young adults.
  • American Red Cross Multi-Media First Aid Card and CPR certification within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet teens, young adults, and other customers entering the facility or calling by phone, and provide information about programs, events, and activities.
  • Explain policies, procedures, and requirements related to class enrollment, program participation, and facility use.
  • Engage participants to resolve problems and complaints using program and operations policies and procedures.
  • Use a computerized point-of-sale/event registration system. In case of power outages, perform tasks manually using paper receipts and a calculator.
  • Collect fees and payments via cash, check, credit card, vouchers, and automatic debits; register participants for classes, programs, and facility rentals.
  • Provide receipts, refunds, credits, and change as appropriate.
  • Prepare bank deposits and count money in drawers at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure accuracy.
  • Balance daily cash, credit, and debit card transactions in accordance with established procedures.
  • Generate and retrieve reports from the computerized registration system or complete reports manually on program plans, attendance, highlights, and other required information.
  • Assist in preparing and distributing marketing materials for programs, special events, and facility services.
  • Generate and retrieve reports related to admission, reservations, and attendance using basic math skills.
  • Open and close customer accounts; respond to inquiries; verify or update billing and customer data; and collect payments and fees.
  • Enter required data into the online system and support report and data requests.
  • Communicate effectively with both internal and external customers in verbal and written formats.
  • Provide prompt and accurate information to colleagues, customers, and teammates.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment with a positive, welcoming, and solutions-focused attitude.
  • Engage effectively with teens, young adults, and other community members from diverse backgrounds in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level and type as assigned.
