About The Position

The Real Estate Program Manager will work closely with the director of external affairs and other housing development team members to advance the team’s mission of sustaining an equitable housing development ecosystem to meet the needs of communities across the state. This role focuses on training emerging developers, removing barriers to housing development, and connecting resources. Key responsibilities include implementing programs like the Real Estate Development Boot Camp and Affordable Housing Forum, building relationships with industry leaders, managing events from start to finish, developing mechanisms to track participant success, facilitating trainings, and monitoring affordable housing policy updates. The manager will also lead or participate in coalitions, explore opportunities to expand training and technical assistance, assess sponsor and funder needs, create proposals, and coordinate with third parties for training development. Additionally, the role involves supporting MSHDA’s Regional Housing Partnerships (RHPs) by understanding the Statewide Housing Plan, addressing obstacles to implementation, conducting trainings for RHPs, and supporting contractual relationships. The manager will also collaborate with MEDC to distribute predevelopment assistance funds to Redevelopment Ready Certified communities, providing project management, contract execution, and technical support. The position requires cross-organization support, including attending staff meetings, representing CEDAM at conferences, and participating in organizational committees.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of CEDAM’s Real Estate Development Boot Camp program, the Affordable Housing Forum, and other housing-focused trainings
  • Building relationships with sponsors, speakers, and other industry leaders
  • Managing events from start to finish: Curriculum development, budget development, coordinating speakers, event logistics (in coordination with CEDAM’s events team), and providing support to participants throughout and beyond the event
  • Developing a mechanism to track Boot Camp participant success beyond the training
  • Facilitate trainings and sessions as experience allows
  • Monitoring and supporting key affordable housing policy and program updates.
  • Working with the policy and communications team to update our members and partners about legislative and state agency news that affects the affordable housing field
  • Managing a coalition of CEDAM members who are engaged with the LIHTC QAP
  • Leading or participating in coalitions as opportunities arise or are identified
  • Exploring ways to expand training and/or technical assistance offered by CEDAM.
  • Assess gaps in CEDAM’s ability to meet training and technical assistance requests
  • Assess the interest and needs of existing and potential sponsors and funders to expand current programs
  • Create proposals to meet identified needs
  • Coordinate with third parties to develop training and resources that meet the needs of our field
  • Supporting the Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s (MSHDA) 15 Regional Housing Partnerships (RHP) as they implement customized housing action plans.
  • Understanding the Michigan Statewide Housing Plan (Plan) and the RHP structure
  • Working with MSHDA, RHP Leads and members, and the CEDAM network in each region to identify and address organizational capacity and policy obstacles to Plan implementation
  • Conducting and coordinating trainings and facilitated discussions for the RHPs
  • Supporting contractual relationships with MSHDA and subcontractors
  • Working with our partners at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to distribute predevelopment assistance funds to Redevelopment Ready Certified (RRC) communities
  • Support the predevelopment assistance program through project management, contract execution, and technical support as needed
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings
  • Represent CEDAM at both external and CEDAM-hosted conferences and events
  • Participate as reasonable in CEDAM organizational committees
