About The Position

The Real Estate Program Manager will work closely with the Director of External Affairs and other housing development team members to advance the team’s mission of sustaining an equitable housing development ecosystem. This role involves implementing various housing-focused training programs, building relationships with industry leaders, managing events from conception to completion, and developing mechanisms to track participant success. The position also includes monitoring affordable housing policy updates, managing coalitions, exploring program expansion, assessing needs for training and technical assistance, and creating proposals to meet identified needs. Additionally, the role supports regional housing partnerships in implementing housing action plans, coordinates with partners to distribute predevelopment assistance funds, and provides cross-organizational support through participation in meetings, conferences, and committees. The ideal candidate will share CEDAM's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and possess extensive experience in real estate development, affordable housing, curriculum development, technical assistance, coalition building, and/or policy advocacy. They should be collaborative, adept at navigating complex housing programs, passionate about supporting emerging developers, and committed to creative problem-solving and continuous improvement. The role requires statewide travel, potentially multiple days a week, and an enjoyment of fieldwork and direct partner engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of CEDAM’s Real Estate Development Boot Camp program, the Affordable Housing Forum, and other housing-focused trainings
  • Building relationships with sponsors, speakers, and other industry leaders
  • Managing events from start to finish: Curriculum development, budget development, coordinating speakers, event logistics (in coordination with CEDAM’s events team), and providing support to participants throughout and beyond the event
  • Developing a mechanism to track Boot Camp participant success beyond the training
  • Facilitate trainings and sessions as experience allows
  • Monitoring and supporting key affordable housing policy and program updates
  • Working with the policy and communications team to update members and partners about legislative and state agency news that affects the affordable housing field
  • Managing a coalition of CEDAM members who are engaged with the LIHTC QAP
  • Leading or participating in coalitions as opportunities arise or are identified
  • Exploring ways to expand training and/or technical assistance offered by CEDAM
  • Assess gaps in CEDAM’s ability to meet training and technical assistance requests
  • Assess the interest and needs of existing and potential sponsors and funders to expand current programs
  • Create proposals to meet identified needs
  • Coordinate with third parties to develop training and resources that meet the needs of our field
  • Supporting the Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s (MSHDA) 15 Regional Housing Partnerships (RHP) as they implement customized housing action plans
  • Understanding the Michigan Statewide Housing Plan (Plan) and the RHP structure
  • Working with MSHDA, RHP Leads and members, and the CEDAM network in each region to identify and address organizational capacity and policy obstacles to Plan implementation
  • Conducting and coordinating trainings and facilitated discussions for the RHPs
  • Supporting contractual relationships with MSHDA and subcontractors
  • Working with partners at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) to distribute predevelopment assistance funds to Redevelopment Ready Certified (RRC) communities
  • Support the predevelopment assistance program through project management, contract execution, and technical support as needed
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings
  • Represent CEDAM at both external and CEDAM-hosted conferences and events
  • Participate as reasonable in CEDAM organizational committees
