About The Position

Reading Corps Reading Tutors serve at local schools to help students improve their reading skills. Tutors receive training in proven instructional activities and ongoing coaching. Each school day, tutors work with pairs of students for 20-minute reading practice sessions, help students return to their classrooms, and follow a schedule to serve all assigned students. Tutors encourage students as they build their reading skills and confidence. Positions are available for the 2026–27 school year and run from October 2026 through June 2027. Full-time schedules are 35 hours per week, with fewer hours during weeks that include holidays or school release days; part-time positions are also available at 27.5 and 20 hours per week. Work takes place during daytime hours corresponding with school schedules, Monday through Friday, with no weekends. AmeriCorps members have a total service-hour commitment and may occasionally complete approved service or training outside the school day as needed, in coordination with program staff. Full-time AmeriCorps members receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks, at $20.78 per hour served, along with additional perks. Reading Corps is administered by Ampact, a nonprofit organization, and is powered by AmeriCorps members serving as tutors.
