About The Position

The Rates Operations Specialist supports the efficient execution of interest rate derivative transactions by working closely with Capital Markets and Banking teams, Operations, and other stakeholders. The role helps ensure accurate trade processing and regulatory compliance, supports the interest rate trading and sales teams, and contributes to improving internal controls, visibility, and processes. It also provides trade execution and client support, helps manage risk, and creates queries related to positions, profit and loss, mark to market, regulatory reports, and general inquiries. The position is based in Birmingham, Atlanta, or Columbus. The job description notes that its duties are not a comprehensive inventory and that employees may be assigned other related responsibilities.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Five years of experience in a support role such as derivatives middle office, securities operations, or another treasury operations group.
Strong knowledge of banking or securities products.
Risk and controls awareness and the ability to apply it to an interest rate operations role.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with people at all levels, internally and externally.
High degree of professionalism and the ability to influence and effect change within an organization.
Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and email applications.

Responsibilities

Manage daily tasks including trade reconciliations, trade allocations, management control reports, and trade statuses.
Analyze discrepancies to help resolve trade issues and client queries; manage, escalate, and resolve requests, inquiries, issues, and errors, and identify policy gaps.
Ensure accurate trade capture, position management, and continuity of inventory from day to day.
Perform front-to-back reconciliation of life cycle events for interest rate transactions and monitor internal controls for compliance with procedures, KPIs, KRIs, and sample testing.
Assist with confirming trades executed by Trading and Sales teams.
Maintain standard settlement instructions and oversee upcoming settlements within the trading system.
Work with Legal, Compliance, Information Technology, Risk, Operations, Banking, and Capital Markets teams to improve efficiency, optimize trade processing, and reduce errors.
Create standard operating procedures for the Interest Rate Operations team to help expedite trades.
Perform operational reconciliations to ensure cash movements related to trade settlements are reconciled.
Streamline operational activity and comply with regulations.
Coordinate and support ad hoc projects with the Capital Markets Trading & Operations group.
Assist other team members as needed to ensure distinctive service.
Observe policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and role-specific risk limits; promptly raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
