About The Position

The Range Keeper reports to the Project Manager and will provide Shooting Range services for the Military Outdoor Training Ranges located Burwash, Ontario. The role requires the individual to be physically sound and adaptable enough to do moderate lifting and walk over rough terrain. Experience and knowledge in the operation of shooting ranges, a general property maintenance background, and the ability to operate small-to-medium sized machinery/tools are essential. The position involves flexible work hours, including weekdays, weekends, and evenings, based on range reservations. Key attributes include being a self-starter, demonstrating a good work ethic, providing superior customer service, and possessing good communication (English), interpersonal, and organizational skills. The Range Keeper will interface with DND/Police/civilian range users and assigned subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license.
  • Be prepared to operate Company vehicles/equipment safely.
  • Must work flexible hours according to Range reservations.
  • Must be prepared to wear and respond to calls.
  • Will be required to pass a security clearance.
  • Adhere to the Company Code of ethics, Code of conduct and confidentiality agreements.
  • Suitably physically sound and adaptable enough to do moderate lifting and to walk over rough terrain.

  • Able to operate small-medium sized machinery/tools such as tractors with various attachments (i.e. farm tractor, lawn mower, aerator, front-end bucket, snow blower) power hand mowers, trimmers, walk behind snow blower, plow truck, power saws and hand tools including but not limited to shovels, hammers, saws, rakes, telephones.

Responsibilities

  • Repair targets/backings and replace target frames at Winona Range.
  • Perform repairs including removing and replacing paper target figures.
  • Provide flexible hours to accommodate march-in/march-out processes, including occasional evening/weekend activity.
  • Oversee in and out inspections of ranges.
  • Regularly inspect all range property and infrastructure, reporting work order needs and conducting day-to-day operation and maintenance.
  • Conduct in/out inspections with Exercise Directors (OIC Exercise) to ensure ranges and buildings are returned as found and that March in/out forms are signed.
  • Report and record all incidents, damages, causes, and vandalism.
  • Report malfunctioning installed equipment, including kitchen and laundry equipment.
  • Obtain Project Manager authority before calling in subcontractors.
  • Ensure First Aid and Fire Fighting equipment/supplies are maintained and replenished.
  • Walk perimeter fence lines, ensuring fences are in good repair and growth is cut back.
  • Complete all grass cutting, snow removal, and ice control operations with provided equipment according to performance standards.
  • Prune trees, shrubs, and plants as required for appearance and maintenance.
  • Build/Repair target frames, ensuring sufficient are on hand at all times.
  • Conduct janitorial services in all range buildings.
  • Conduct routine repairs, paying attention to occupant safety and property protection.
  • Provide janitorial supplies as required.
  • Institute suitable waste disposal and materials recycling.
  • Take appropriate measures for pest control both indoors and outdoors.
  • Pick up litter and garbage as required.
