Ramps Lead

Rise Works•,

About The Position

Rise is hiring a Ramps Lead to own its ramp infrastructure end to end: the services that move funds between traditional finance and on-chain systems, the bank and partner integrations behind them, and a small team of engineers. Rise’s ramps are already in production; the role will improve resilience, scale systems with volume, and add new rails and partners. The Ramps Lead reports to the Director of Product, who owns the ramps roadmap and customer outcomes. The lead provides technical strategy, planning and delivery, and is accountable for turning product priorities into reliable, shipped systems. This is a hands-on technical leadership role that involves writing production code most days and setting technical direction. The role owns system resilience, observability, cost and speed, and designs for partner outages, stuck transactions, chain reorgs and partial settlements so failures can be detected and recovered from without losing or duplicating funds. Rise’s technology stack includes Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run and BigQuery), MySQL, Node.js and TypeScript, Cloudflare (including Cloudflare Pages), and EVM settlement contracts on Arbitrum, Base, Polygon, Optimism and Ethereum. Security and correctness are first-order concerns.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years leading engineers or owning a technical domain.
  • Deep banking integration experience, including direct work with bank partners, banking-as-a-service providers or regulated money transmitters on account structures, settlement, ACH, wires, SEPA and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of banking concepts, including ledgering, settlement windows, returns and reversals, KYC and KYB, money transmission rules, and how funds move between institutions.
  • Strong production experience with Node.js and TypeScript, including API design, background workers and event-driven systems.
  • Proven experience building and operating payment systems that handle real money, with a security-first mindset and hands-on ownership of reconciliation and failure recovery.
  • Strong track record in monitoring, observability and on-call for production payment systems, including designing alerts, carrying the pager and identifying problems before they become incidents.
  • Demonstrated daily use of AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, Cursor or similar in an engineering workflow, and a point of view on using them well and safely.
  • Comfort with SQL (MySQL or similar) and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience reporting to or working closely with a product leader to shape roadmaps, align priorities and deliver against them.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical partners.
  • Authorization to work in the United States and ability to pass background and credit checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Solidity and EVM experience, including reading, testing and integrating smart contracts, and working knowledge of wallets, transaction signing, gas management and RPC providers.
  • Experience with Foundry or Hardhat, OpenZeppelin or account abstraction.
  • Experience with on-chain monitoring and stablecoin settlement.
  • Background in treasury, liquidity management or FX.
  • Prior work at a payments, payroll or crypto company.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Product to shape the ramps roadmap and translate it into a sequenced technical plan with clear milestones.
  • Own the architecture and delivery of on-ramp and off-ramp infrastructure and execute the roadmap.
  • Bring engineering tradeoffs, partner constraints and risks into product decisions early.
  • Build and maintain Node.js and TypeScript services for fiat and crypto settlement, partner APIs, reconciliation and ledgering.
  • Integrate ramp services with existing EVM smart contracts and coordinate with the smart contract team when flows need on-chain changes.
  • Evaluate, integrate and manage banking, liquidity and ramp partners, including banks, banking-as-a-service providers, stablecoin issuers and payment processors.
  • Build resilient payment processing, including idempotent and retry-safe flows, reconciliation against partner and on-chain records, circuit breakers, provider failover and recovery paths for stuck or failed transactions.
  • Own end-to-end monitoring and observability for ramp flows, including metrics, tracing, alerting and dashboards to detect stalled transactions, partner degradation and balance drift.
  • Own on-call for ramps, respond to incidents, lead root cause analysis and drive fixes to prevent repeated failures.
  • Partner with Compliance and Finance on regulatory, treasury and reconciliation requirements.
  • Lead and mentor engineers, review code, and raise quality and security standards across the team.
  • Use AI tools daily for design, coding, testing, code review, documentation and operational work, and help the team do the same.
