About The Position

The Railcar Repair Technician performs repair and maintenance work on tank cars, conducts inspections to ensure compliance, and completes necessary repairs using current procedures. The role requires safety awareness, teamwork, leadership skills, and a strong emphasis on welding. The technician supports customers and completes required invoicing, inspection, and work-order information. The position is located in Morris, Illinois, with a shift of 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM and a starting rate of $25.48 per hour.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Mechanical aptitude and the ability to problem-solve and make decisions.
Ability to use hand tools and other equipment, including tools used to chip and grind weld slag or spatter.
Ability to complete basic railcar repairs and inspections.
Good interpersonal and customer-relations skills, and ability to work as part of a team.
Welding abilities and willingness to continue improving welding skills and knowledge of railcar repairs.
Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to stoop for extended periods and routinely move between kneeling and standing.
Ability to wear a respirator.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from the ground.
Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to pass a company physical exam.

Responsibilities

Perform all aspects of tank car repair and maintenance using current repair procedures.
Inspect railcars for compliance and perform repairs as necessary.
Meet customer expectations and requirements to support customer satisfaction.
Complete necessary invoicing, inspection, and work-order information.
Maintain required certifications, including tank car welding certifications.
Demonstrate familiarity with AAR rules and regulations.
Complete other work-related tasks as assigned.
