About The Position

Inova Loudoun Hospital is seeking a Radiology Extern 2 to perform a variety of tasks and procedures under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging Technologist, according to completed competencies and unit needs. The extern applies imaging knowledge learned in class and practiced in school, supports the healthcare team in carrying out plans of care, and assists with radiographic examinations using department protocols and appropriate precautions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Full-time student in good standing at an accredited school of Radiologic Technology; must be enrolled in an accredited school or program.
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.
• Successful completion of Extern 1 competencies.
• Must be in the second year of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks and procedures under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging Technologist in accordance with completed competencies and unit needs.
• Identify learning needs and seek opportunities to expand knowledge of imaging and the imaging process.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to support the plan of care and patient and unit outcomes.
• Assist with adhering to radiography principles.
• Use radiation protection procedures effectively, including collimation devices and protective shielding.
• Assist radiologic technologists with examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile technique.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
