About The Position

Inova Health Center - Ashburn is seeking a Radiology Extern 2 to perform a variety of imaging-related tasks and procedures under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging Technologist. Duties are performed according to completed competencies and unit needs. The extern applies imaging knowledge learned in class and practiced in school, supports the healthcare team in implementing plans of care, and follows radiography and radiation-protection principles. The position is PRN (as needed) with a varied schedule.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Be a full-time student in good standing in an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
• Be enrolled in an accredited school or program.
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.
• Successful completion of Extern 1 competencies.
• Be in the second year of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tasks and procedures under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging Technologist, in accordance with completed competencies and unit needs.
• Identify personal learning needs and seek opportunities to enhance practice knowledge related to imaging and the imaging process.
• Assist the healthcare team in implementing plans of care and achieving desired patient and unit outcomes through effective communication and collaboration.
• Demonstrate the ability and skills to assist with adherence to radiography principles.
• Use radiation-protection procedures effectively, including collimation devices and protective shielding.
• Assist radiologic technologists with examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile technique.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
