About The Position

Inova Loudoun Hospital is seeking a Radiology Extern 2 to perform a variety of tasks and procedures under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging Technologist. Work is performed according to completed competencies and unit needs. The extern supports imaging examinations and patient care while developing knowledge and skills related to radiography and the imaging process. The schedule is varied and PRN (as needed).

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Full-time student in good standing and enrolled in an accredited school or program of Radiologic Technology.
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.
• Successful completion of Extern 1 competencies.
• Must be in the second year of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

Responsibilities

• Perform tasks and procedures under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging Technologist, in accordance with completed competencies and unit needs.
• Identify personal learning needs and seek opportunities to expand knowledge of imaging and the imaging process learned in class and practiced in school.
• Assist the healthcare team in implementing the plan of care and achieving patient and unit outcomes through effective communication and collaboration.
• Assist with adherence to radiography principles.
• Use radiation protection procedures effectively, including collimation devices and protective shielding.
• Assist radiologic technologists with examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile technique.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
