About The Position

Inova Health Center - Ashburn is seeking a Radiology Extern 2 to join its team. This PRN, as-needed role works under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging Technologist and involves performing tasks and procedures according to completed competencies and unit needs. The extern supports imaging care, builds practice knowledge, collaborates with the healthcare team, and assists with radiographic examinations and radiation protection.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Full-time student in good standing and enrolled in an accredited school or program of Radiologic Technology.
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.
• Successful completion of Extern 1 competencies.
• Must be in the second year of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tasks and procedures under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging Technologist, in accordance with completed competencies and unit needs.
• Identify learning needs and seek opportunities to enhance knowledge related to imaging and the imaging process learned in class and practiced in school.
• Assist the healthcare team in implementing the plan of care and achieving desired patient and unit outcomes through effective communication and collaboration.
• Demonstrate the ability and skills to assist with adhering to radiography principles.
• Effectively use radiation protection procedures, including collimation devices and protective shielding.
• Assist radiologic technologists with examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile technique.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
