R&D Reliability/Test Engineer - June 2027 Grads

Formlabs•Somerville, MA
•$85,000 - $123,000

About The Position

Formlabs is seeking an R&D Reliability/Test Engineer to join its small, agile Reliability Engineering Team. The team serves as an independent voice on product robustness, ensuring hardware products are reliable through effective testing strategies, advanced electromechanical test rigs, and actionable analysis of test and field data. The role is intended for June 2027 graduates. The engineer will develop and manage validation plans at the system, subsystem, and component levels; investigate electromechanical subsystems and field failures; build automated test equipment; and collaborate with R&D design teams throughout product development. The work includes risk assessment, continuous testing, design reviews, and corrective action planning to influence product reliability from the beginning of development. The annual base pay range is $85,000–$123,000, with equity included in the compensation package.

Requirements

  • Be well-versed in complex electromechanical systems and passionate about understanding how to make them work reliably.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and manage system-, subsystem-, and component-level validation test plans to ensure products meet design and reliability requirements.
  • Perform hands-on and data-driven root cause analysis of electromechanical subsystems and field failures using common problem-solving methodologies and a physics-of-failure approach.
  • Design, build, and implement automated testing equipment for subsystem characterization and reliability and environmental testing.
  • Collaborate with R&D design teams throughout product development to perform risk assessments, manage continuous testing, and contribute to design reviews.
  • Analyze field failure data to identify trends, prioritize investigations based on business value, and develop actionable corrective action plans.
