About The Position

Austin Engineering is seeking a Quality Assurance Tech to join their team. This role involves testing and inspecting products at various stages of production, processing, compiling, and evaluating statistical data to ensure product quality and reliability. The position supports the use of Welding Procedure Specifications and involves monitoring and evaluating individual weld tests. Austin Engineering is an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of customized dump truck bodies, buckets, water tanks, and other ancillary products for the mining industry, serving clients globally from their facility in Casper, Wyoming.

Requirements

  • Computer literate, Microsoft Office products.
  • Demonstrate efficient knowledge of all welding processes and settings, such as but not limited to: FCAW, GMAW, GMAW-Pulse, GTAW, SMAW, and Air-Arcing.
  • Solid knowledge and experience with S-500 power-wave platform welding machines.
  • Understanding the development of Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for the development of Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) per AWS D1.1 and other codes as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to act as a trainer for the power-wave and/or any other welding process used at Austin.
  • Ability to answer questions that the welder may have about the welding machines and their proper use.

Responsibilities

  • Tests and inspects products at various stages of production.
  • Processes, compiles, and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products.
  • Monitors and evaluates individual weld tests.
  • Supports the use of Welding Procedure Specifications throughout the production process.
  • Evaluates customer standards, determines testing procedures, and chooses equipment by reading specifications, engineering prints, work orders, and test manuals.
  • Confers with Engineers, Production personnel, and the Quality Assurance Manager regarding blueprints, testing procedures, and communicates results to prevent and resolve quality assurance problems.
  • Performs dimensional inspection of fit-ups, root gaps, bores, assemblies, sub-assemblies, piece parts, angles, and critical inspection points before and after welding using prints and proper measuring devices.
  • Signs off inspection in audit sheets and logbook.
  • Approves materials by comparing Material Test Reports (MTR) to material specifications requirements, signing off on Material Issue Tickets.
  • Performs visual inspection of fabricated items regarding welding, painting, material, prints, and body construction sheets.
  • Operates ultra-sonic, magnetic particle testing equipment, and dye-penetrant to verify weld integrity.
  • Analyzes test results, compares them with specifications, makes supervisors aware of defective welds, and records/processes test data.
  • Calibrates test instruments according to specifications.
  • Exercises technical authority over work in process to ensure it meets specified standards of quality.
  • Complies with all applicable safety guidelines by correcting hazards, informing supervisors, or recommending guidance to coworkers.
  • Complies with applicable company policies and tool check-out procedures.
  • Administers internal reclassification and new-hire welding tests, grades, and evaluates results for recommendations on welder placement.
  • Demonstrates efficient knowledge of all welding processes and settings (FCAW, GMAW, GMAW-Pulse, GTAW, SMAW, and Air-Arcing) and solid knowledge/experience with S-500 power-wave platform welding machines.
  • Acts as a trainer for the power-wave and/or other welding processes, answering welder questions about machines and their proper use.
  • Understands the development of Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for the development of Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) per AWS D1.1 and other codes.
  • Performs related work as required.
