About The Position

The seasonal Laborer position within the Public Works department is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in support of departmental operations. Work is carried out under the general supervision of the Division Supervisor and the direct oversight of lead crew members assigned to specific projects. Seasonal Laborers may be temporarily assigned to any division within the department to provide coverage during employee absences or periods of increased workload. Successful candidates should demonstrate a general mechanical aptitude and possess the physical stamina and mental focus required to perform manual labor in varying conditions.

Requirements

Basic math (ex: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers)
Traffic laws and rules involved in vehicle and equipment operation
Standard safety protocols in the performance of essential functions as well as City policies regarding safe work practices
Follow written and oral instructions and to communicate effectively
Understand simple roadmaps and city boundaries
Operate hand/power tools and equipment in the performance of manual labor
Operate a motor vehicle and related equipment in a skilled and safe manner and in accordance with traffic laws and regulations
Perform work in a safe manner
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with fellow City staff, associates, contractors and the general public
Perform relatively heavy manual work for extended periods of time, and to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions
Minimum of 18 years of age at time of appointment
Possession of a valid State of Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record
