About The Position

The Public Works Maintenance Worker is a seasonal role that assists Public Service Workers with daily work tasks. This position involves performing comprehensive maintenance duties across streets, parks, and ballfields, including repair, mowing, and cleaning tasks. This position supports irrigation and cemetery maintenance, assists with the upkeep of street and park signs, and contributes to landscape maintenance efforts such as weeding and mulching.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class D driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of public works practices and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff, residents, and the general public.
  • Ability to follow through with work assignments, provide self-direction, and maintain safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, making decisions based on established City policy, standards, and requirements.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, mowers, and light equipment.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written assignments.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior public works experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Public Works staff with street maintenance activities including pothole repairs, crack filling, asphalt patching, street sweeping, and related roadway maintenance.
  • Conduct park maintenance by mowing, trimming, and picking up garbage within the park system.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of athletic fields, ballfields, playgrounds, shelters, and recreational facilities.
  • Assist in the repair, maintenance, and operation of irrigation systems.
  • Assist with cemetery operations, including mowing, trimming, weed control, grounds maintenance, and grave preparation activities.
  • Operate mowers, string trimmers, utility vehicles, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the repair and replacement of street and park signs.
  • Contribute to landscape maintenance efforts, including weed pulling, mulching, and replacing planted areas.
  • Follow established safety procedures and safe work practices.
