About The Position

Crowe is hiring a Public Sector Strategy Project Manager to support the California State Controller’s Office (SCO) and its California State Payroll System (CSPS) project. CSPS is implementing a large, complex SaaS solution covering personnel and payroll for approximately 300,000 employees across 160 agencies and 21 bargaining units. The project has an estimated budget exceeding $1 billion, a team approaching 200 IT professionals, and is expected to continue for several years. The PMO ensures formal project management processes are followed across leadership, functional, technical, and organizational change management workstreams; maintains documentation according to policy and procedure; reports periodically on project risks, issues, and overall health; supports monitoring of system integrator performance; and recommends process improvements. The PMO has four senior project managers, each working directly with state and system integrator counterparts. The successful candidate will lead and support work in a highly complex, large-scale IT implementation, interacting directly with client and system integrator staff. The role calls for strong project management and analytical skills, professionalism, client service, adaptability, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Remote work is permitted from within the continental United States, with occasional travel to Sacramento for project meetings on advance notice. Work must be performed from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific time, regardless of location. Candidates must pass an SCO background check before beginning work.
