About The Position

Under the direction of the Deputy Chief, the Night Patrol Supervisor, holding a rank of Lieutenant, is responsible for the night operations of the Patrol Unit. This is to be accomplished through the supervision of Officers and Dispatchers. All resources are to be managed to provide pro-active and protective services to the college community. In addition, under the direction of the Chief of Public Safety, the Night Patrol Supervisor, will be responsible for updating and maintaining the Standard Operating Procedures, Co-Administration of the Public Safety (ARMS) Automated Records Management System, Updating Public Safety Clery Act and Crime incident reporting, and maintaining the Daily Crime Log and Key Indicators report.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university.
  • One to two years related Public Safety experience and/or training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Meets all the qualifications of the Public Safety Officer position.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's license.
  • Certified in required Control Tactics including the use of the ASP collapsible baton.
  • Certified to carry and use OC pepper spray.
  • Required First Aid/ AED/ CPR certification.
  • Blood-borne Pathogen training.
  • Psychological First Aid training.
  • Clery Act reporting training.
  • Hazardous Material Response training.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office, Automated Records Management System (ARMS), and basic user-friendly software programs.
  • Affirmation of the Wheaton College Statement of Faith.
  • Affirmation of the biblical standards for Christian character and God-honoring behavior described throughout the Wheaton College Community Covenant, and promise to adhere to them in personal practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the Public Safety night staff through the patrol function.
  • Perform all patrol duties of a regular Public Safety Officer.
  • Serve as the First Responder to campus emergencies and incidents and assume command of significant events until a higher-ranking college official can respond.
  • Provide necessary information, resources, guidance, and direction for Public Safety Officers and Public Safety Dispatchers.
  • Make updates and changes to the department’s Standard Operating Procedures and publish those updates.
  • Function as a Co-Administrator of the (ARMS) Automated Records Management System, including setting up accounts, approving reports, and providing guidance.
  • Submit a monthly Key Indicators report to the Chief of Public Safety.
  • Maintain the Daily Crime Log.
  • Assist in updating the Clery Act reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the screening, interviewing, hiring, and training of Officers.
  • Assist in establishing specific goals, policies and procedures for the Patrol Unit.
  • Evaluate patrol procedures and training, submitting recommendations for changes or improvements.
  • Study and report trends on the night shift related to campus incidents and Public Safety needs, recommending changes or improvements.
  • Promote a positive spirit of service and maintain high morale among Public Safety personnel.
  • Promote a reputation of cooperation and service to all College departments.
  • Represent Public Safety patrol needs, including budget requirements, to the Chief and Patrol Coordinator.
  • Serve as an example to all Public Safety personnel and portray a professional attitude.
  • Be responsible for the effective performance of all night patrol functions and duties, including patrol, dispatch, and the campus shuttle.
  • Review, make corrections, and approve incident reports submitted by night shift personnel.
  • Ensure exterior lighting and campus elevator emergency phones are checked and tested monthly, preparing work orders for needed repairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in all department training events and department meetings.
