About The Position

The Public Safety Communications Supervisor provides day-to-day oversight of Public Safety Dispatchers, Alarm and Video Monitoring Specialists, and student support staff. The supervisor assigns and delegates work, schedules employees to maintain appropriate staffing levels, and manages subordinate employees’ performance, including evaluations, coaching, mentoring, and corrective action for performance or conduct issues. The supervisor provides technical assistance, resolves work and personnel issues, and identifies training needs related to dispatching and video/alarm monitoring equipment, LEADS, and technologies, policies, directives, and procedures affecting division operations. Under the general supervision of the Senior Dispatch Communications Supervisor, the role helps define objectives, priorities, and deadlines and provides input on unusual situations or problems without clear precedent. The supervisor independently plans and carries out work while following instructions, policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations. The position must be able to perform the full range of Public Safety Dispatcher and Alarm Video Monitoring Specialist (AVM) duties as needed. After completing the probationary period, the selected candidate is expected to understand public safety communications center operations; become adept with CAD, enhanced 9-1-1, video surveillance, alarm, and mass notification systems; develop general knowledge of campus geography and nearby roads and buildings; demonstrate interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and mediation skills; obtain an FAA Part 107 drone license; exercise initiative, discretion, and judgment; and work under stressful or emotional conditions. This is an essential position requiring attendance regardless of an emergency condition, because absence could endanger the safety and well-being of the campus population or physical plant. The position is subject to 24-hour call-in and may involve any shift, weekends, holidays, home football games, and other significant campus events. The target hiring rate is $44.84 per hour. The position is located at Blankenship Hall and is regular, with 40 scheduled hours and varying shifts. Final candidates must successfully complete a background check; a drug screen or physical may be required after an offer.
