This position provides day-to-day oversight of Public Safety Dispatchers, Alarm and Video Monitoring Specialists and student support staff. Supervises and directs subordinate staff which includes assigning and delegating work projects and scheduling employees to ensure proper staffing levels are maintained. Also responsible for all aspects of the performance management process for subordinate employees including evaluating work performance, providing coaching and mentoring and implementing corrective action for performance and conduct related issues. The Communications Supervisor also provides technical assistance to staff, resolves work or personnel related issues and identifies training needs for Communications Center staff on the use of dispatching and video/alarm monitoring equipment, LEADS, and other technologies/policies/directives/procedures impacting the operations of the division. This position works under the general supervision of the Senior Dispatch Communications Supervisor and assists with defining objectives, priorities and deadlines and provides input on unusual situations or problems with no clear precedent. Supervisors plan and carry out their work independently but are expected to resolve issues in accordance with instructions, policies, procedures and applicable laws and regulations. The Communications Supervisor is expected to be able to perform the full range of Public Safety Dispatcher and Alarm Video Monitoring Specialist (AVM) functions and to do so on an as needed basis.
