About The Position

Genworth and CareScout are seeking a paid Public Relations Intern for the Winter 2027 term. The internship offers hands-on experience in earned media and strategic communications, including identifying media opportunities, supporting reporter outreach, developing communications materials, monitoring industry trends, and contributing to campaigns that raise awareness of issues affecting older adults and their families. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who is curious, proactive, and eager to learn how media relations can shape public understanding and drive meaningful impact. The position is hybrid in Richmond, Virginia, with in-office work Tuesday through Thursday and remote work Monday and Friday. Strong candidates may be considered for a remote internship.

Requirements

Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's or master's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with media or influencer trends.
Organized and adaptable, with eagerness to contribute in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

Prior earned or social media experience.
Prior internship experience.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain media lists using tools such as Muck Rack or similar platforms.
Conduct media outreach and support efforts to secure interviews, coverage opportunities, and thought leadership placements.
Monitor news and industry trends to identify timely media opportunities.
Support development of campaigns promoting awareness of long-term care challenges and solutions.
Help coordinate media interviews and support day-to-day media relations activities.
Track, measure, and analyze earned media coverage and campaign performance.
