About The Position

This paid internship is for aspiring public relations professionals seeking hands-on experience in earned media and strategic communications. The intern will help identify media opportunities, support reporter outreach, develop communications materials, monitor industry trends, and contribute to campaigns that raise awareness of issues facing older adults and their families. The role is hybrid in Richmond, Virginia, with in-office work Tuesday through Thursday and remote work Monday and Friday. Strong candidates may be considered for a remote internship.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor's or master's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Organized, adaptable, and eager to contribute in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with media or influencer trends; prior experience with earned or social media is a plus.
• Prior internship experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain media lists using Muck Rack or similar platforms.
• Conduct media outreach and support efforts to secure interviews, coverage opportunities, and thought leadership placements.
• Monitor news and industry trends to identify timely media opportunities.
• Support development of campaigns promoting awareness of long-term care challenges and solutions.
• Help coordinate media interviews and support day-to-day media relations activities.
• Track, measure, and analyze earned media coverage and campaign performance.
