About The Position

This position is responsible for strengthening Alaska’s response to major medical emergencies, including heart attack and stroke. The role involves collaborating with hospitals, clinics, EMS agencies, and various partners to develop and improve the statewide Major Medical Emergencies System. The specialist will utilize data and collaboration to identify areas for improvement and support the creation of educational materials, protocols, and system processes. This role offers an opportunity to enhance care coordination and ensure Alaskans experiencing medical emergencies receive prompt, high-quality medical attention. Requirements

  • Competencies in Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information effectively to individuals or groups, considering the audience and nature of the information; makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others and responds appropriately.
  • Competencies in Project Management: Knowledge of principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work, and contractor performance.
  • Competencies in Public Health: Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving community health, including promoting healthy lifestyles, disease/injury prevention, and infectious disease response.
  • Competencies in Research: Knowledge of scientific principles, methods, and processes for systematic inquiry, including study design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
  • Competencies in Technical Competence: Uses acquired knowledge through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform job duties; understands and evaluates technical information; advises others on technical issues.
  • Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or professional level experience in public health, health administration, nursing, epidemiology, health sciences, health education, community health, emergency medical services, psychology, the social sciences, the biological sciences, social work, biostatistics/statistics, education, or a closely related field.
  • Transcripts are required to verify educational credentials.
  • Three (3) professional references are required.
  • Current performance evaluation, if available, is required.
