About The Position

YWCA Northeast Kansas is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. We provide transformative services in the areas of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking, Community Violence Interruption, before- and after-school programming, and leadership and inclusion initiatives. Reporting to the Center for Safety and Empowerment (CSE) Program Director, the Public Education Manager leads the organization’s community education and awareness programming about domestic and dating violence, sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking. This position develops and delivers trainings and public awareness efforts, manages community partnerships, and facilitates staff training as requested. As a member of the CSE Supervisor Team, this position contributes to program leadership, participates in the CSE Supervisor’s On-Call rotation, and supports coordination of services across program areas. Following successful completion of the probationary period, this role may assume supervisory responsibilities for assigned staff, interns, or volunteers, as determined by program needs.

Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Human Services, or a related field. Relevant professional experience may be substituted for formal education requirements, depending on the nature and scope of the experience.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Basic understanding of dynamics of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support services.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage individuals in crisis.
  • Ability to function well in a crisis setting where interruptions are frequent.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel within service areas.
  • Dedication to relationship building and a commitment to working as an integral part of a team, while exercising significant initiative and autonomy.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements an array of educational presentations throughout the community on topics related to the agency’s mission and vision.
  • Delivers presentations and trainings to schools, community groups, and professionals from diverse disciplines.
  • Schedules and coordinates all speaking engagements and outreach opportunities with community partners.
  • Represents the Center for Safety & Empowerment at community events, panels, and meetings as requested.
  • Maintains records of outreach activities and presentations for program reporting and internal documentation.
  • Organizes and coordinates awareness-raising community events for DV/SV/HT/ST programming.
  • Assists with planning for community events including, but not limited to the Week Without Violence and the Concealed Revealed Art Auction.
  • Leads the Holiday Store initiative, ensuring clients and their families have gifts and essential needs provisions during the December holiday season.
  • Assists in the creation and design of promotional and informational materials related to CSE services.
  • Collaborates with the YWCA Community Engagement Team to promote programs, initiatives, and opportunities for community involvement.
  • Provides advocacy and direct assistance to clients as needed.
  • Participates as an active member of the CSE Supervisor Team, contributing to program coordination, decision-making, and operational support.
  • Participates in the CSE Supervisor on-call rotation and respond to after-hours situations consistent with program protocols.
  • Assists with onboarding and training of new staff, through assigned New Advocate Training sessions.
  • Collaborates with CSE leadership to identify training needs and contributes to staff development opportunities related to the agency’s mission and services.
  • Serves as a point of contact for connecting supporters and community members with YWCA programming, volunteer opportunities, and mission-driven initiatives.
  • Participates in collaborative community partnerships and represents CSE in relevant community meetings and initiatives.
  • Attends biweekly CSE all-staff meetings, weekly supervision meetings, and participates in program planning and coordination.
  • Maintains accurate records and complete all timekeeping documentation required by funders.
  • Following successful completion of the probationary period, this position may provide supervision for assigned staff, interns, or volunteers as determined by program structure and organizational needs.
  • Provides guidance, training, and support to staff involved in community education or outreach initiatives.
  • Supports staff development and ensure program activities align with organizational policies and program expectations.
  • Refrains from assuming any duty that is unrelated to and/or interferes with the responsibilities of the position.
  • Advocates, promotes, and practices cultural sensitivity and responsiveness in day-to-day interactions.
