About The Position

The University of Ottawa is seeking a Part-Time Professor for ESL 110 - Academic Foundations in English for the Fall 2026 semester. This position involves developing listening and reading skills by introducing students to inferences and patterns of organization in authentic passages. Speaking and writing activities include dialogues, role-plays, sentence construction, and paragraph composition. The course is offered exclusively on the University of Ottawa campus and requires in-person instruction. Professors teaching the same section mutually agree upon teaching schedules. In circumstances of limited sections on offer and/or conflicting schedules among professors, the unit reserves the right to select professor teaching days for a given section.

Requirements

Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline.
Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level.
Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course.
Experience with team-teaching.
TESL Certification or equivalent.
Ability to complete all mandatory legislated training as required by provincial law.

Responsibilities

Develop listening and reading skills by introducing students to inferences and patterns of organization in more authentic passages.
Engage students in speaking and writing activities such as dialogues and role-plays.
Guide students in the construction of simple and compound sentences.
Facilitate the composition of short paragraphs.
Provide in-person instruction on the University of Ottawa campus.
Mutually agree upon teaching schedules with other professors teaching the same section.
