About The Position

Responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction. The instructor must remain current in the discipline area and continually explore teaching methods and strategies to engage learners, organize and plan instructional content that accommodates diverse learning styles, and devise appropriate assessment tools that monitor student learning outcomes. The instructor is also responsible for participating in related activities to include professional development, academic advising, curriculum design, and other activities that contribute to the department, division, and College. The instructor performs all other duties as directed by the Division Dean, or the President or designee.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in psychology or a master’s degree in any field plus fifteen (15) graduate level credits in psychology.
  • Satisfactory completion of 30 semester hours or more in an accredited doctoral program in psychology may, at the discretion of the Vice President, be determined to meet this requirement.
  • One year of teaching experience, preferably at the college level.
  • Evidence of foundational knowledge of psychology, including the history, major perspectives, and basic concepts that are taught in the introductory psychology course.
  • Evidence of ability to effectively teach introductory psychology, social psychology and developmental psychology courses.
  • Relevance of non-teaching professional experience to anticipated teaching assignments.
  • Evidence of quality teaching, including faculty evaluation scores and ratings, teaching awards earned, courses designed, developed, and/or revised, etc.
  • Evidence of knowledge of and experience in employing a variety of instructional methods and techniques, including instructional technology and alternative approaches to accommodate different student learning preferences.
  • Evidence of currency in professional discipline through continuing education, professional development, and/or scholarly activity.
  • Evidence of ability to teach effectively within, and contribute positively to, a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural student population and campus environment.
