About The Position

Coordinates, plans, organizes, and teaches through classroom instruction and online education for selected areas of discipline. Creates and delivers engaging learning experiences for students to stimulate interest in subjects taught and to foster effective knowledge acquisition and communication. Promotes active inquiry, problem solving, digital literacy, and related decision making through the design and implementation of courses and teaching methodologies. Advises students and provides instructional support outside of class time as needed to foster student success. POSITION SUMMARY Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Coordinates, plans, organizes, and teaches through classroom instruction and online education for selected areas of discipline; teaching schedule may include courses in the day, evening, or on weekends on any College campus as assigned. Leverages the College's technological resources including technological resources including Canvas, the College's Learning Management System, Google Suite and Smart Classrooms to support a robust curriculum and meaningful learning activities. Creates and delivers engaging learning experiences tailored to students' learning styles to stimulate interest in subjects taught and to foster effective knowledge acquisition and communication. Promotes active inquiry, problem solving, digital literacies and related decision making through the design and implementation of courses and teaching methodologies. Assesses student success and learning outcomes; serves as an advisor to students and provides instructional support outside of classes as needed to foster student success. Participates in program and curriculum review, assessment, development and student learning outcomes initiatives. Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment to Department Chairs; assists in the College's library collection development by selecting, evaluating, and updating library resources in each appropriate discipline. Keeps students continually informed and updated concerning their progress and work produced, course content, requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance. Mains accurate and complete scholastic records and other appropriate documentation. Assists with the recruitment, retention and registration of students. Participates on various committees and in selected local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations Mains active involvement in the co-curricular activities of the College. Performs additional tasks or duties as assigned by the Discipline Coordinate, Department Chair, or other designated management.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in psychology is required; a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology is strongly preferred. Candidates who are ABD (all but dissertation) with a clear timeline to degree completion may be considered.
  • Prior college-level teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach across multiple areas of psychology, including both introductory and advanced coursework.
  • Experience designing or supervising capstone experiences or specialized concentrations within an integrated social sciences framework.
  • Position will require ability to work at any of the College’s locations – Paramus, Lyndhurst and Hackensack.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission and practices an open-door policy.
  • Possess the ability to use computer-assisted learning technology, especially online instruction.
  • Practices active scholarship and professional involvement.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, particularly Canvas, is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrates involvement with community partnerships, clinical applications, or applied research.
  • Evidence of leadership in departmental initiatives, such as instructional innovation or program development.
  • Has proficiency in the use of Google suite.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence at the college level, particularly in introductory and foundational courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement a social science research methods course.
  • Experience or strong potential in cross-disciplinary or team-taught environments, specifically in courses that integrate multiple theoretical perspectives.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum innovation, including the development of concentrations, micro credentials, and digital badges.
  • Familiarity with integrating AI-focused tools and AI literacy into social science pedagogy.
  • A track record of (or clear potential for) program-level assessment and data collection.
  • Ability to use assessment results to drive institutional goals regarding student persistence, retention, and transfer.
