About The Position

Harmony United Psychiatric Care offers a voluntary, unpaid Psychiatric Office Assistant internship for people transitioning into healthcare careers or entry-level candidates without prior medical experience. The hands-on program provides foundational exposure to medical office operations in an outpatient behavioral and mental health setting, with practical training, industry knowledge, and mentorship. The program lasts 3 to 6 months and requires at least 600 internship hours to qualify for completion. Participants who complete the program receive a certificate documenting their hours and skills and a reference letter. The schedule is flexible, with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week and full office days of up to 10 hours. The program begins with orientation and HIPAA/confidentiality training, followed by front-desk observation and shadowing, then supervised practice in outpatient psychiatric office tasks. Interns receive an assigned supervisor, weekly feedback and progress check-ins, real-time guidance, a structured training checklist, and observation periods before independent work. The internship is unpaid, and Harmony United Psychiatric Care charges no program fees. Applicants must be at least 18, have graduated from high school, be able to maintain a consistent schedule, and pass a basic screening such as a background check. No prior healthcare or office experience is required. The organization conducts pre-joining drug screening and random drug testing under its drug-free workplace policy.
