About The Position

UVA Health Primary Care Culpeper is seeking an experienced, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Physician's Assistant to provide outpatient behavioral health services within a collaborative primary care setting. This full-time position offers a four-day workweek (4 x 10-hour shifts) with no inpatient responsibilities. Experience preferred with ages 5 and up. Responsible for provision of Advanced Practice Provider services, including assessment and management of patients across all clinical settings, (examples: ambulatory clinic, hospital, assisted living facility, skilled nursing facility/nursing home, ambulatory surgery center, and community settings), within the scope of licensing, training, and credentialing dependent on specialty.

Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Current or eligible Virginia Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse licensure.
  • DEA registration and prescriptive authority eligibility.
  • Ability to practice independently and manage a diverse outpatient psychiatric patient panel.

  • Minimum of 3 years of psychiatric practice experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments for adolescents and adults.
  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based medication management and therapeutic interventions.
  • Prescribe, adjust, and monitor psychotropic medications in accordance with Virginia regulations and clinical best practices.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up care, including symptom management, treatment monitoring, and medication education.
  • Collaborate closely with primary care providers to support integrated patient care and address behavioral health needs within the primary care setting.
  • Coordinate referrals to specialty behavioral health services, counseling, substance use treatment, and community resources as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a patient-centered, team-based care environment.
