This position involves planning psychiatric care for patients/offenders based on identified needs and problems. The role includes writing measurable goals, planning interventions, and serving on a multi-disciplinary mental health treatment team. The nurse will provide psychiatric nursing services, crisis intervention, and conduct psychiatric screenings and nursing assessments. Development of treatment plans, medication education, and participation in therapeutic groups are key responsibilities. The position also requires implementing special precautions for suicide and escape, managing restraint/seclusion, and observing patient/offender reactions to medication and therapies. Timely reporting to psychiatrists and treatment staff, documentation, and acting as a mental health liaison are essential. The nurse will assist psychiatrists with examinations, coordinate appointments, and provide professional nursing care, including administering medication and assessing medical needs. Direct patient care involves observing and recording symptoms, reactions, and progress, and making appropriate referrals. The role includes performing psychiatric nursing rounds, attending to emergencies, and completing psychiatric nursing care plans. Additionally, the nurse will assist with staff orientation and complete various forms and reports, including quality assurance and medication compliance. Attendance at meetings, conferences, and training sessions is also required.
