This position requires a current license as a registered professional nurse in the state of Ohio and involves planning, directing, and managing psychiatric/MR nursing services and programs. The role includes developing and implementing nursing policies, coordinating quality assurance, monitoring compliance with external reviewers, investigating patient care issues, and serving as a consultant and liaison to staff and external agencies. The Director will also develop and update nursing manuals, conduct patient care reviews, and assist the Medical Director with administrative responsibilities and quality control. Recommendations for efficiency and productivity improvements within the Health Services Department are expected. The role involves supervising and evaluating nurses, approving leave requests, participating in resident evaluations, and staying informed of special resident orders. The Director will observe nursing care, visit residents, assist physicians with examinations, and attend to residents' medical needs. A key aspect is serving as a liaison with community-based medical providers and ensuring residents' appointments are kept. The position requires communication of medical needs discussed in interdisciplinary team meetings and participation in the center's MUI committee. Advising administration on budgetary and personnel needs, interviewing and recommending staff hires, initiating disciplinary actions, and developing/presenting training programs are also responsibilities. Monitoring resident medical charts for nursing compliance and assisting with nursing duties as needed are part of the role. The Director will also act as Administrator On Call and provide shift coverage as needed.

Requirements

  • Requires current license as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing & nursing registration per Section 4723.03 of Revised Code
  • 36 mos. exp. in psychiatric nursing or delivery of nursing services to persons with developmental disabilities
  • Completion of undergraduate core program in nursing
  • 30 mos. trg. or 30 mos. exp. in management
  • 30 mos. trg. or 30 mos. exp. in supervision
  • 18 mos. trg. or 18 mos. exp. in public relations

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs & manages psychiatric/MR nursing services & programs
  • Plans, organizes, develops & implements nursing policies & procedures
  • Coordinates nursing department quality assurance plan
  • Monitors & assures hospital compliance with external reviewers (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid, fire marshal)
  • Investigates all unusual problems involving patient care &/or ward/unit/program management
  • Serves as consultant & liaison to subordinates & all other hospital clinical & administrative staff & with other resources (e.g., community agencies, local, state & federal agencies)
  • Develops, writes & updates nursing services & program manuals

  • Recommends and implements needed changes within the Health Services Dept for efficiency and productivity
  • Supervises and evaluates nurses, completes performance evaluations; approves/disapproves leave requests
  • Assists in planning and coordinating nursing policies and procedures
  • Participates in evaluation process of residents
  • Remains informed of special orders concerning residents
  • Observes nursing care and visits residents to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed and that treatment is administered in accordance with physician orders
  • Assists physicians with resident physicals and examinations
  • Attends to medical needs of residents, directly or through delegation
  • Serves a centers liaison with community based medical providers for individual resident participating in all contracted medical services
  • Ensures that resident appointments are made and kept as scheduled
  • Communicates to all nurses the medical needs discussed at interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Contributes to the center’s MUI committee
