About The Position

First Bus is hiring an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic for its Glasgow Caledonia Depot. The role involves keeping vehicles safe and reliable through fault diagnosis, mechanical repairs, parts replacement, scheduled servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance. The mechanic will also respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries, road test vehicles where required, and complete documentation accurately in accordance with regulations and health and safety standards. The position offers £21.54 per hour, approximately £41,442 per annum, and a £2,000 joining bonus subject to terms. A further pay increase is scheduled for April 2027. The role is for a minimum of 37 hours per week, working five days over seven, including one weekend in three. The stated shift is 6am–2pm, with start and finish times negotiable. The position is based at Caledonia Depot, 100 Cathcart Road, Glasgow, G42 7BH.

Requirements

NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds equivalent qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair.
Experience working on HGV or PSV vehicles.
Valid UK driving licence.
Strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics.

Nice To Haves

PSV or HGV mechanical experience.
Engineering apprenticeship qualification, including experience as ex-Forces personnel.
Experience as an engineer in another automotive sector.

Responsibilities

Diagnose vehicle faults.
Carry out mechanical repairs and replace parts when needed.
Perform scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries.
Road test vehicles where required.
