About The Position

First Bus is hiring an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the team at its Glasgow Caledonia Depot. The role involves keeping vehicles safe and reliable through fault diagnosis, mechanical repairs, parts replacement, scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance. The mechanic will also respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries, road test vehicles when required, and complete documentation accurately in accordance with regulations and health and safety standards. The role is based at Caledonia Depot, 100 Cathcart Road, Glasgow, G42 7BH. The schedule is four nights per week, 8pm–6am, with one weekend in three, and a minimum of 37 hours per week. Pay is £24.07 per hour, stated as £46,310 per annum, with a £2,000 joining bonus subject to terms. A further pay increase is scheduled for April 2027. The joining bonus is available to new team members and people returning after more than 12 months.

Requirements

NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance and repair.
Experience working on HGV or PSV vehicles.
Valid UK driving licence.
Strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics.

Nice To Haves

Experience in PSV or HGV mechanics.
Engineering apprenticeship qualification and experience as ex-Forces personnel.
Experience as an engineer in another automotive sector.

Responsibilities

Diagnose vehicle faults.
Carry out mechanical repairs and replace parts as needed.
