About The Position

FirstGroup is seeking an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the team at its First Bus Glasgow Caledonia Depot. The role involves maintaining vehicle safety and reliability through fault diagnosis, repairs, parts replacement, servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance. The mechanic will also respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries, road test vehicles when required, and complete documentation in accordance with regulations and health and safety standards. The position is based at Caledonia Depot, 100 Cathcart Road, Glasgow, G42 7BH. The schedule is four nights per week, 8pm–6am, with one weekend in three, and a minimum of 37 hours per week. Pay is £24.07 per hour (£46,310 per annum), with a £2,000 joining bonus subject to terms. A further pay increase is scheduled for April 2027. The joining bonus is available to new team members and to returning employees whose previous employment ended more than 12 months ago. Applicants must confirm their right to work in the UK. Requirements

NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance and repair.
Experience working on HGV or PSV vehicles.
Valid UK driving licence.
Strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics.
Confirm the right to work in the UK.

Nice To Haves

PSV or HGV mechanical experience.
Engineering apprenticeship qualification, including experience as ex-Forces personnel.
Experience as an engineer in another automotive sector.

Responsibilities

Diagnose vehicle faults.
