The Property Security Officer is responsible for security at an assigned site and performs protective, security, enforcement, and public-contact work. The officer patrols facility interiors and exteriors on foot, checks doors and windows for signs of compromise, locks and unlocks property according to post orders, and protects artworks and other property from fire, damage, theft, and other hazards. The officer monitors assigned areas for policy or rule violations and recognizes and reports unusual, suspicious, or hazardous situations. The position provides information and assistance to employees, guests, and the public, including escorts and help with disabled vehicles, hazards, power outages, and heating or cooling problems. The officer reports these matters to UNC Dispatch, monitors radio traffic and crimes in progress, and communicates information to responding officers through Dispatch. The officer operates and maintains security equipment, completes daily activity reports, and notifies supervisors or the Security Manager of problems or incidents. The role involves working individually and independently in a generally unsupervised position, maintaining confidentiality and discretion, and adapting to changing circumstances. The officer must arrive on time and in full uniform. Because the role supports uninterrupted University operations during adverse weather and other emergencies, the officer may need to work the usual schedule or report outside it, including when the University closes. The stated schedule is Monday through Friday, 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., subject to change. The officer also works with TPS Parking Enforcement to request parking citations and towing.
