About The Position

To assist engineers in the planning, project development and implementation of various city infrastructure projects. Directly involved with tracking and administering the technical components of assigned projects. This includes project cost/budgeting development, reviewing consultant billings, attend and present at public meetings, attend and present at City Council, and meet directly with citizens. Coordinate and follow-up with various departments within the City as well as external agencies.

Requirements

  • Eight years of relevant experience in construction, architecture or engineering fields.
  • Advanced principles and procedures of technical engineering work including, AutoCAD Civil 3D drafting, GIS, mathematics, construction methods and inspection, engineering standards; Understanding of computer aided drafting, surveying, inspection and testing equipment; Principles and procedures of record keeping; Advanced principles of GIS data gathering and application; Awareness of occupational hazards and standard safety practices; Awareness of new trends and innovations in construction methods and techniques; Principles of basic supervision and training.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintain mental capacity, which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
  • Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties.
  • Oversee multiple projects at various stages of development; coordinate review of complex construction and civil engineering projects; Learn to coordinate multiple public works projects; Work independently in the absence of supervision; Understand and follow oral and written instructions; Understand and apply knowledge and guidance from more senior staff; Read and interpret complex engineering plans and specifications.
  • Provide technical training to more junior staff.
  • Prioritize work, meet deadlines, and make sound decisions within established guidelines.
  • Operate a variety of engineering equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Perform accurate mathematical computations.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate International Municipal Signal Association Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician certification.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the execution of project design and inspection services for assigned areas. Prioritizing tasks and planning work; gathering necessary data and coordinating efforts with other engineering areas; monitoring progress to ensure projects meet City standards and timely completion.

  • Assist in project evaluation and scoping with upper level management.
  • Coordinate with other City department on project prioritization and budgeting.
  • Gather and compile data relating to projects/programs and engineering to prepare and submit reports and correspondence to upper level management.
  • Assist in supporting emergency management operations within the assigned area as required.
  • Inspects and reports on critical infrastructure in conjunction with other departments; Provides assistance to local consultants working on infrastructure.
  • Respond to public and professional inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Develop, prepare, and update project status reports and timelines to convey to department management and other City departments.
  • Organize and participate in public meetings. Follow-up with information to City Council, public and agencies. Prepare and present at public meetings to include City Council, public meetings, etc.
  • Prepare application documentation for funding opportunities.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
