About The Position

This recruitment is exempt from the Hiring Freeze (Administrative Order 358). ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS! The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Labor Standards and Safety, is recruiting for a Project Assistant! No Cover Letter Required! This position is in the Supervisory Unit (SS) at a Range 16. This position is located in Anchorage. However, this position may be relocated within Alaska with necessary approvals where infrastructure allows. The Wage and Hour Project Assistant leads a team that ensures prevailing wage requirements are adhered to on public construction projects. They supervise a five member team across the state that supports the office by conducting audits of certified payrolls, performing on-site inspections of construction projects, reviewing and approving Notices of Award and Notices of Completion, providing technical assistance for users of the Department’s LSS Online Filing Services, and offering customer service to the public. The project assistant is also involved in the strategic planning for the office, oversees the office’s finances, and has control over office record keeping and reporting. The mission of Labor Standards and Safety is to ensure safe and legal working conditions for all Alaskans. The project assistant carries out this mission by ensuring their team effectively and efficiently enforces the prevailing wage requirement on public construction projects. They also oversee statistical reporting and contribute to the future planning for the office to ensure office resources are used effectively and efficiently for the benefit of working Alaskans.

Requirements

  • Supervision: Plans, distributes, and monitors work assignments; sets task priorities; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner. Assignments include the authority and responsibility to recommend or independently take action to employ (i.e., appoint, transfer, promote), discipline or discharge, or adjudicate grievances of direct reports.

  • Training from an accredited college or university in any field and/or experience such as performing research; interpreting data; applying, interpreting, and disseminating technical, statutory, and/or regulatory requirements; and/or experience in community development, research, social services, economics, public administration, planning, or a closely related field.
