About The Position

The Program Support Assistant (PSA) to the Peri-Operative Service line provides administrative support and technical assistance with all administrative functions in the service. The incumbent must be able to analyze problems and use good judgment to ensure rapid resolution. The incumbent must demonstrate good communication skills to serve as a point of contact for staff, Veterans, and visitors. The PSA works closely with the administrative personnel of the Perioperative Nursing Service.

  • Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
  • Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing administrative and data support to medical staff and assist in planning, coordinating, executing, and evaluating service programs; experience performing daily clerical requests such as phone calls, faxing, scanning, the coordination of meetings, and work order entry; experience utilizing office automation (e.g. word processing, CPRS, VISTA, Excel Access, etc.) and communication tools such as MS Outlook and Microsoft Teams; experience in preparation, maintenance and submission of time and attendance for employees.

Responsibilities

  • Independently plans, develops, maintains and reviews service data collection methodologies, records and techniques
  • Provide technical and complex administrative and data support to the Chief and/or AO and will assist in planning, coordinating, executing, and evaluating service programs to ensure that services are provided promptly, courteously, with a compassionate understanding of veterans' needs and the needs of those responsible for their care, and in compliance with all regulatory guidelines and laws
  • Assist the Nursing, Perioperative Service Chief in maintaining records of training, and competencies as needed and per facility policies and regulatory body requirements
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining personnel files for staffing the service as required by Human Resources, including records of training, licensing, certifications, competencies and performance evaluations
  • Coordinates and manages all resources including supplies, telephone and computer moves within the service line
  • Provides general office supply and equipment support services such as obtaining standard office supplies and services, procuring, or justifying the full range of office services, or answering questions concerning policies and procedures related to support/office services
  • Serves as Timekeeper for numerous T&L units within the department. The incumbent is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and timely submission of Time & Attendance reports for each employee whose record has been assigned to their jurisdiction
  • Assists service line staff with troubleshooting PC issues, submits workorders as appropriate, and serves as a back-up to the ADPACS Program Application Specialist as needed
