About The Position

The YMCA of Delaware is seeking a Program Specialist for their Drum Line for Percussion Instrument program at the Walnut YMCA Family Location. This role is crucial in ensuring youth and teens are on a pathway to success, improving the health and wellbeing of individuals and families, and uniting communities through service. The specialist will provide percussion and drum line instruction to participants ages 7-17, teaching fundamental and advanced techniques, preparing them for performances, and ensuring the proper care of instruments.

Requirements

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community
Experience in percussion performance, drum line instruction, music education, or related field.
Knowledge of percussion techniques, marching percussion, rhythm development, and ensemble performance.
Experience working with youth ages 7–17 in educational, recreational, or community-based settings.

Responsibilities

Provide percussion and drum line instruction to participants ages 7–17 with varying skill levels.
Teach fundamental and advanced percussion techniques, including rhythm, timing, stick control, rudiments, and performance skills.
Follow lesson plans, rehearsal schedules, and instructional activities.
Prepare participants for performances, exhibitions, competitions, and community events.
Evaluate participant progress and provide constructive feedback to support skill development.
Ensure proper use, care, storage, and inventory of percussion instruments and equipment.
Foster an inclusive environment that welcomes participants from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
