About The Position

Responsible for coordinating the overall Trauma Program in collaboration with other disciplines. This role involves patient education, participation in interdisciplinary meetings, data collection and analysis, assisting with IRB approvals, and collaborating with external organizations. The Program Manager oversees the patient's inpatient stay, discharge planning, and Utilization Review for the trauma population. They maintain knowledge of trauma care systems, identify and implement system improvements, and evaluate the quality of nursing care. This position also involves developing standards of practice, supporting research initiatives, participating in outreach and community education, and overseeing the Hospital Trauma Registry and its budget. Active participation in various trauma committees is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Five years of profession nursing experience.
  • Experience with trauma patients.
  • Current State of Michigan Registered Nurse license.
  • BLS certification as Healthcare Provider
  • ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provides education to trauma patients and their families in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary meetings regarding patient plan, education and training related to trauma initiatives, and ongoing education of staff.
  • Maintains a log of all trauma cases.
  • Participates in data collection of trauma patients through patient management tool (PMT).
  • Contributes in assessment of data quality.
  • Assists with IRB approval.
  • Interacts with EMS and Emergency Department on a regular basis to identify potential cases.
  • Collaborates with other organizations related to state and national initiatives.
  • Supports appropriate, cost effective, high quality patient care of trauma patients by overseeing the patient’s inpatient stay.
  • Directly responsible for the patient’s discharge plan and for the Utilization Review (UR) for the trauma population.
  • Maintains intimate knowledge of trauma care systems for pre-hospital care to inpatient discharge.
  • Identifies system problems, records, and implements activities for systems improvement.
  • Utilizes objective measurement tools to evaluate the quality of nursing care delivered to trauma patients.
  • Establishes and implements plans to assure safe, reliable, compassionate nursing care.
  • Facilitates and supports the establishment of quality improvement programs, supports continuous improvement process.
  • Works with the Medical Director to create efficiency initiatives such as practice guidelines, paths, and protocols.
  • Develops and implements standards of practice for trauma patients in conjunction with the Medical Director.
  • Ensures appropriate information and education with appropriate departments.
  • Participates in research required to fulfill the Trauma Center Designation.
  • Encourages interdisciplinary research and assists in its coordination.
  • Mentors nursing staff involved in trauma research.
  • Encourages the application of current research into clinical practice.
  • Participates in outreach efforts, including community/public relations and professional presentation.
  • Coordinates the institutions of community education in injury prevention.
  • Provides oversight for the development and maintenance of the Hospital Trauma Registry (HTR) for MGL.
  • Supervises Trauma Registry budget.
  • Actively participates in the Multidisciplinary Trauma Committee, Trauma Peer Review and Trauma Grand Rounds.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as necessary.
