About The Position

Pilot Company is seeking a Safety Intern to join their team in Knoxville, Tennessee, for the summer of 2027. This internship offers the opportunity to gain experience in safety management systems, risk reduction, and operational excellence. The intern will support the development and enhancement of safety programs, procedures, and policies, collaborate with various business teams, analyze safety data, and contribute to strengthening the company's safety culture. This role is designed for learning the practical application of safety principles within a supportive team environment.

Requirements

Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field.
Proficiency in Excel is essential, including the ability to work with data, create graphs, and utilize basic formulas.
Experience with PowerPoint and Microsoft Office Suite is required.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders across the organization.
Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are essential.
An outgoing personality, a willingness to work independently, and the initiative to take ownership of projects.

Nice To Haves

Coursework in safety management systems or risk management is a plus.
An eye for document design and creating effective visual communications is highly valued.

Responsibilities

Support safety program development: Assist with the creation and enhancement of safety programs, procedures, and policies designed to reduce risk and promote safe operations.
Gather and analyze safety data: Work with inspection, audit, and operational data to identify trends, support leading indicators, and help inform future safety initiatives.
Develop safety solutions: Research workplace risks and hazards, observe operational practices, and help create procedures and recommendations that improve safety performance.
Collaborate with business partners: Work closely with Retail Operations, Energy Operations, and other stakeholders to understand safety needs and support continuous improvement efforts.
Create and deliver presentations: Develop PowerPoint presentations, one-page safety communications, and other materials used to educate and engage operational teams on safety initiatives.
