About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and Director of Teaching and Learning, the ESL Program Coordinator will be able to provide a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of theory and practice, in the development and management of multilingual programming; demonstrate knowledge of federal and state legislation as it pertains to multilingual programming and teacher certification; demonstrate creative leadership in planning, implementing and reviewing multilingual curricula; demonstrate a strong capacity to involve parents and do outreach into the community. Requirements

  • A. or M.S. in Education
  • Professional Educator License with Endorsements in General Administration and Bilingual or ESL or ENL Background
  • Experience with best practices in utilizing strategies and techniques for teaching in the native language for multilingual students
  • Awareness of strategies for assisting multilingual students with their acquisition of the English Language
  • Experience providing staff development for ESL teachers
  • Minimum of Five Years Teaching Experience
  • Fluent in reading, writing and speaking Spanish and English
  • Strong communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
  • Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and/or other required written materials.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints.
  • Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.
  • Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals consistent with the duties of this position.

Responsibilities

  • District point of contact for all issues related to ESL students enrolled in the district.
  • Collaborate with MLL program coordinators and the ESL teachers.
  • Program review of Instruction models to ensure adherence of state legislation and incorporates approaches and methodologies based on scientifically based research on teaching ESLs.
  • Lead and motivate the ESL staff in an environment of collaboration while providing the guidance, direction, instruction and curricular support necessary to monitor student progress and close the achievement gap between ESL students and their peers.
  • Consult with building administrators on effective instructional programming for ESL students, recommended materials for students, understanding the bilingual / ESL curriculum.
  • Evaluate ESL teachers and promote the laws as it pertains to ESL students and programming.
  • Coordinate the process of identifying ESL students’ district wide.
  • Monitor the academic success of exited ESL students.
  • Work with ESL teachers to create and implement curriculum.
  • Analyze student achievement data to implement, change and modify current instructional programming to improve the educational services provided to students.
  • Co-Coordinate ACCESS testing.
  • Assist in screening students for services.
  • Evaluate instructional resources/materials for the core programming, supplementary and interventions in the ESL classrooms.
  • Develop and conduct staff development for teachers’ district wide as it pertains to ESL effective instructional strategies.
  • Responsible for the hiring, evaluating and remediation of ESL staff.
  • Actively assist in the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee.
  • Implement district bilingual events along with participating in local community events.
  • Comply with state and federal legislation as it pertains to compiling and filing of all physical and digital reports required by ISBE.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Director as it relates to ESL students with IEPs to ensure ESL students are receiving the services they are entitled.
  • Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction or Designee.
