About The Position

Tacoma Public Schools is seeking current Tacoma School District regular/contracted multilingual teaching staff for the Extended School Year (ESY) Summer Program. This program runs from July 6 to August 6, 2026, with staff working Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7:45 am to 12:15 pm. The program aims to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to foster their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, aligning with district and state initiatives for student achievement. This is an internal-only position, meaning external candidates will not be considered.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be current Tacoma School District regular/contracted multilingual teaching staff.
  • Applicants must be able to be present for the full shift for all 20 days of the program.
  • An ELL endorsement is required for certificated staff.
  • A resume/document must be uploaded; a brief statement of Multilingual Teaching experience can be attached if a current resume is not available.
  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate.
  • Completion of all District-required trainings, as assigned.
  • Fingerprints and successful WSP and FBI background clearance/sexual misconduct clearance.
  • Knowledge of applicable Washington State and Federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using various formative and summative assessments.
  • Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods, and techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and provides students with appropriate learning activities, experiences, and a classroom environment designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
  • Supports the School/Building, School Board, District, and State curriculum, policies, and initiatives for student achievement.
  • Develops, plans, and strategizes a program of study based on and capitalizing on the learning needs of students, meeting individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media to engage students and provide opportunities for participation consistent with students’ needs and capabilities.
  • Assesses student accomplishments and growth regularly, providing progress reports and maintaining appropriate grades.
  • Refers students for evaluation by District Specialists as needed.
  • Provides guidance to promote students’ welfare, educational development, and citizenship.

  • Utilizes multiple data elements (formative and summative assessments) to plan, inform, and provide other formative assessment opportunities by adjusting instruction.
  • Evaluates student learning and success criteria to modify and improve program effectiveness.
  • Uses Washington State approved student growth rubrics for tracking student growth data.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Provides for and promotes the care and protection of students and school property.
  • Supervises students in the lunchroom, hallways, school grounds, and any program held at the school under District sanction.
  • Effectively utilizes and provides access to community and District resources to enhance student learning and teacher effectiveness.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge and skills through professional development activities and training.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
  • Supervises Para Educators and other classroom office assistance as required.
  • Provides guidance and works with staff members appropriately.
  • Develops and maintains professional and collegial relationships with colleagues.
  • Collaborates with peers and administrators to improve student learning.
  • Supports appropriate conduct and performance of job duties.
  • Adheres to Tacoma Public School Board policies.
  • Contributes to the development of new teachers and student teachers per District guidelines.
  • Maintains files on latest curriculum guides.
  • Keeps updated on resources and methods and makes relevant changes to instructional plans and activities.
  • Performs related duties as assigned on a temporary basis.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, predictable attendance and physical presence as an essential job requirement.
