About The Position

The Compliance Officer is responsible for investigating the insurance coverage status of employers in North Carolina to ensure compliance with Chapter 97 and other applicable insurance requirements. The Compliance Officer reviews data analytics from various State information systems and identifies potentially non-compliant employers. Additional information is then requested from the identified employers and other State agencies to determine the employers’ insurance status. Recommendations are made for civil penalty assessments against noncompliant employers in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 97. Professional level work is required to review the insurance coverage status of identified employers to determine if the employer is subject to and in compliance with Chapter 97. The Compliance Officer evaluates policy forms, addenda, payroll records, corporate filings, and related factors to determine compliance with statutory provisions. The Compliance Officer applies insurance law, department regulations and appropriate procedures to ensure compliance with Chapter 97. Work is reviewed and evaluated by a supervisor through meetings, reports, and a detailed review of completed work assignments.

Requirements

• A minimum of two years of significant compliance or investigation experience working independently.
• Demonstrated experience applying provisions of a statute, rule, or policy to a situation.
• Demonstrated experience reviewing and analyzing information from different information sources to address issues and determine the sufficiency of the information.
• Demonstrated computer skills and considerable experience using common Microsoft Office suite programs, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
• Bachelor’s degree from appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
