About The Position

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is seeking a Program Assistant for the Weinberg Housing & Resource Center (WHRC), a low-barrier emergency shelter serving more than 275 adult men and women each night in Baltimore City. WHRC provides shelter, meals, showers, laundry, case management, convalescent care, and other supportive services to help individuals move toward stability, self-sufficiency, and permanent housing. This is a direct-service role supporting adults experiencing homelessness in a busy emergency shelter environment, rather than an administrative or desk-based position. The Program Assistant helps maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment by responding to resident needs, monitoring activity throughout the facility, documenting incidents and services, de-escalating difficult situations, and assisting with day-to-day needs. The work can be fast-paced and unpredictable, and requires patience, dependability, compassion, sound judgment, and professional boundaries. The position is on-site at WHRC in Baltimore, Maryland. The regular schedule is 11 PM to 7 AM on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The role requires substantial walking and standing, frequent movement throughout the facility, and hands-on assistance with resident needs. Employees may also work outdoors in varied weather conditions. CPR and/or First Aid and ServSafe certifications must be obtained within six months of employment and maintained thereafter.
